Executive Manager – Legal Services
Regional Manager – Free State
Specialist – Compliance Risk(Risk Management)
Executive Manager: Legal Services
As an admitted attorney, my career has taken me on an interesting path so far, having worked in both corporate and development environments. I have a passion for using my practical legal knowledge to develop innovative solutions that drive strategy implementation.
When I joined Land Bank in 2016 as the General Manager: Legal Services, responsible for the Bank’s corporate and commercial portfolios, I was excited at the prospect of finding practical ways to support an organisation with such a strong transformation and development mandate.
I am firm believer in the philosophy that with hard work comes great rewards and this is something that is both recognised and demonstrated at Land Bank. I was promoted to the role of Executive Manager of the Legal Services division at Land Bank, assuming responsibility of leading the entire function on 1 January 2018.
In my new role, I will be working towards positioning the Legal Services division as a valued business partner and an enabler that offers sound advice aligned to the organisations mandate. I am also extremely excited to be leading a team of exceptionally talented and dedicated people whose support has helped me to grow since I joined Land Bank.
If you are looking to make a meaningful contribution at a dynamic and diverse organisation that is working to create more access to the agricultural sector, Land Bank should be on your shortlist!
Provincial Manager: Free State (Commercial Development & Business Banking)
I joined Land Bank during June 2017, having held various positions within the sales and operations divisions at the commercial banks. With a background in microbiology and biochemistry, working in the agricultural sector feels like a natural progression for me, especially given its massive potential to grow the economy and change people’s lives in the process.
At Land Bank, we are faced with different scenarios that require dynamic thinking and problem solving underpinned by robust engagements with the relevant stakeholders on a daily basis. The Bank has also taken a deliberate step to focus on its development mandate by facilitating the participation of previously marginalised groups (Black people, women and youth) into mainstream agriculture. This requires us to be innovative and solution minded in our approach and challenge the norms wherever possible. I enjoy being a part of an organisation that has been entrusted with such a meaningful and important mandate.
Land Bank has a very unique value proposition in that it must support the entire agricultural sector, both commercial and emerging farmers. I am privileged to lead and manage a Provincial Team that is working to expand the development footprint of the Bank and grow the business in a sustainable way.
If you are interested in playing a part in South Africa’s transformation agenda, Land Bank is the place for you!
Specialist: Compliance Risk (Risk Management)
Having joined Land Bank as an intern at the beginning of 2017, I was eager to demonstrate the difference and value I could bring to the Risk team. Having completed an LLB, I originally intended to go into the Bank’s Legal Services division, but after discussions with the team, we decided that my skills and competence would be better suited to the Risk Management division.
My grandmother always said that if lost, the things you work hard for are easier to rebuild than if they were given to you for free. This is the advice that I have held onto in starting my career at Land Bank, and it has already paid off!
I moved into the role of Specialist: Compliance Risk in January 2018 and my main responsibilities are to ensure that the Bank complies with the laws and regulations that govern its operations. I have a deep passion for ethics and I am currently working my way to becoming a certified ethics officer. My ultimate goal is to be a pioneer of change at Land Bank, supporting the organisation in its endeavours to build on and maintain an already strong culture of ethics.
Land Bank’s internship programme proved to be a great training ground for the role I am now in, with a team that was so supportive, coaching and mentoring me all the way. I wouldn’t be in the role I’m in today were it not for this grounding, which is why I am so grateful for the internship programme.
To graduates looking for a supportive, focussed and high-performance organisation to begin their careers with, I would encourage you to consider Land Bank. Remember, a “graduate” title is only temporary, we do what we have to do now in order to do what we want to do later! When thrown in the deep-end, shake it off and step up, it will all prove to be worthwhile in the end. Whatever corner you are in, always understand how you are making a difference. This will keep you focused and motivated!
